5 dining and drinking spots to check out along the central Rail Corridor

Rail Corridor

Going for a trek along the Rail Corridor? Make a day out of it by checking out these inimitable dining and drinking spots along the way

Trekking along the revamped Rail Corridor (Central) has become quite the national pastime for Singaporeans. Since the roughly 4km stretch reopened to the public earlier this year, its historic, cultural and natural allures – from quarries to fauna, conserved truss bridges to the railway tracks itself – have attracted many people who simply enjoy taking in the great outdoors while rediscovering Singapore’s past and present.

But there are other things enticing them too: the many eateries, bars and restaurants that can be found near or along the entire expanse of Hillview and Bukit Timah, which the corridor runs right through. With so many places to visit, we pinpoint some of the best ones for you to plot your journey around.

1. Beauty World Food Centre

Not just any hawker centre, this sprawling rooftop foodie haven located on the fourth floor of Beauty World Centre stands out from the rest with its charming views, a self-proclaimed ‘beer garden’ terrace area, and more food choices than you can imagine. Highlights include You Peng Noodle Dumpling House for its affordable and juicy xiao long baos (steamed broth dumplings), and Big Boys Sizzling for its generously portioned steaks and chicken cutlets. Another standout is the rich and nutty satay bee hoon from Jin Li Satay Bee Hoon. For an airy spot to grab a bite and drink, look no further.

2. IO Italian Osteria

It requires a slight detour off the regular route, but this gem of an Italian restaurant located at HillV2 is worth the legwork (what’s a couple hundred more metres, right?). Housemade wood-fired pizzas, pastas cooked the way nonna does, and succulent grilled meats makes it all worthwhile. This is as hearty and comforting as it gets. Not feeling like dining in? Their authentic street snacks make for great takeaway grub.

Kindred Folk
An ice cream and waffle treat to cap off the journey

3. Kindred Folk

What better way to cool off from the hot sun than with icy cold handmade ice cream. Kindred Folk at KAP Mall is the best place to do just that. Indulge in its best-selling flavours such as Loaded Cookies n’ Cream and Belgian Dark Chocolate, or try something different with offerings such as Roasted Rice Milk Tea. Pair these with waffles and brownies if you’re feeling particularly peckish. There’s a decent selection of fruit teas and coffees too, in case you want to slake your thirst or perk yourself up.

4. Maison Marie

Part gourmet grocer, part modern European bistro, this one-of-a-kind venue can be found at the Rail Mall, a charming row of shops conveniently situated right beside one of the entrance points of the central Rail Corridor near Hillview MRT. We recommend ending your trek at this perfect brunch spot (try the roasted prawns and grilled Mediterranean sea bream), where you can then stock up on artisanal bakes and groceries before heading home via train.

Yeast Side
Quench your thirst with gulps of craft beer.

5. Yeast Side

Nothing quite like an ice cold craft beer to refresh and rejuvenate while letting your legs get some well-deserved rest. Yeast Side, once again at KAP Mall, has both indoor and alfresco seating to pick from. Choose from 12 running taps, find a spot and just kick back. There’s a good range of bakes to fill your tummy with too. The Sourdough Sticky Bun topped with caramel sauce and pecans is a popular choice, or bring home its plain Brioche for a buttery soft loaf so good you can eat on its own.

Please check the establishments’ respective websites for opening hours as well as booking and seating requirements before visiting, and remember to adhere to safe-distancing measures while out and about.
