Crafted exclusively for Singapore Airlines in the Czech Republic by design house LASVIT, the celestial installation blends artistry and craftsmanship to set the mood before take-off

Suspended above the living and dining areas of the First Class SilverKris Lounge at Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 2 are two unique chandeliers, each composed of sculptural forms with 128 hand-blown glass stars. The effect is quietly assuring – an invitation for travellers to pause and unwind before departure.

Conceptualised by Singapore Airlines and Czech-based design house LASVIT, the chandeliers were crafted entirely in the Czech Republic, then dismantled, shipped to Singapore and reassembled on site.

Bringing the sky to life

Glass and light are at the heart of the installation. A dynamic lighting system shifts through programmed scenes, creating movement and mood. “One of the most intricate aspects of the project was programming these lighting sequences, allowing the chandelier to evoke a variety of atmospheres,” says LASVIT designer Michaela Mertlova. “Each sequence was carefully designed to create a sense of movement, mood, and emotional resonance, transforming the piece into a constantly changing work of art.” The project also incorporated some of the smallest LEDs the studio has ever worked with.

More than 800 hours were spent hand-shaping the delicate and intricate glass crystals. Their hues were selected to align with the Singapore Airlines colour palette while complementing the lounge’s interiors. Beyond aesthetics, the 128 stars glitter and twinkle, adding sparkle to the space.

The design’s material symmetry reinforces that intent – 51 gold, 39 bronze and 38 silver elements. Gold signifies abundance, bronze for stability, and silver for clarity; combined they create a balanced, harmonious composition.

Inspiration in the night sky

Mertlova drew inspiration from her own experience gazing out aircraft windows. “There is a unique magic in feeling closer to the stars,” she says. That sense of wonder shaped the installation, which celebrates both aviation’s progress and humanity’s urge to reach higher.

For the designer, the impact comes from the overall atmosphere, not a single vantage point. Each point of light forms part of a constellation, inviting travellers to form their own interpretation – whether in quiet reflection or captured in passing.
