For Fauzaan Sahrudin, being a cabin crew member has never just been about travel. It has been a gateway to discovering new passions, pushing personal boundaries and uncovering sides of himself he never expected.
“I’ve performed on stage twice, and even picked up German along the way,” says the 33-year-old. “I didn’t think I’d ever be able to speak it.”
Since joining the airline, Fauzaan has immersed himself in communities beyond the cabin. Through the Performing Arts Circle and Cabin Crew Music Society, he found a platform to express himself creatively, performing for the SG60 celebrations, and even singing the national anthem at the Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix in 2025.
“Being a cabin crew [member] has shown me that we’re not defined by our limitations, but by the opportunities we choose to embrace”
At the same time, a long-standing fascination with languages led him to take up German. It wasn’t an easy commitment, but one that quickly proved rewarding. “I still remember the first time I spoke German on board,” he recalls.
“A few passengers smiled and said ‘danke schön’ (thank you very much) as they disembarked. That moment stayed with me.”
For Fauzaan, it was a small but powerful reminder of how even the simplest effort can make someone feel seen and understood. Surrounded by colleagues who speak four or more languages fluently, he continues to feel inspired to keep learning.
“Being a cabin crew [member] has shown me that we’re not defined by our limitations, but by the opportunities we choose to embrace,” he says. “There’s always room to grow and discover a new side of yourself, if you’re open to it.
