In a city of old taverns, this La Latina landmark is a real time capsule.
Believed to be about 250 years old, Taberna Antonio Sánchez serves a menu of Madrid classics – oxtail stew, callos la madrileña (Madrid-style tripe) and spicy snails, plus vegetarian options – in a museum-like space that has never been renovated.
It’s still fitted with gas lamps, frescoes of famous bullfighters and dark wood bars with brass rails.
