Meaning “the house of three”, SHOSAN takes its name from the belief that body, soul and mind are interconnected. At SHOSAN Holistic Spa in Pererenan, Bali, this philosophy guides a personalised approach to wellness, drawing on Ayurvedic-inspired traditions, natural botanicals and therapeutic massage.
The spa specialises in scalp care, facials and body treatments, with each experience tailored to individual needs. Central to its philosophy is the belief that the scalp deserves the same attention as facial skin, with consultations and carefully selected ingredients informing its signature rituals.
What to expect
SHOSAN offers an intimate, treatment-focused setting, where therapists follow in-house protocols and adapt products and techniques to each guest’s needs.
Every signature ritual includes tea, a rose-petal foot bath and a shoulder massage, bringing an element of relaxation to the experience before and during treatment.
Curious about SHOSAN’s rituals? Start with one of its 45-minute Mini Rituals (IDR550,000; $39). The Ayurvedic Oil Head, Neck & Shoulder Massage focuses on areas prone to tension, while the Ayurvedic Face Massage concentrates on facial care.
After a day exploring Bali, the Head, Shoulder, Neck & Foot Massage offers another option for tired muscles. Guests can also add gua sha or Kansa wand facial massage (IDR150,000; $11 each) to their appointment.
The signature Ayurvedic Head Spa Ritual
For the full scalp-care experience, book SHOSAN’s Ayurvedic Head Spa Ritual (90 minutes; IDR1,700,000; $121), which combines scalp analysis, customised herbal preparations and massage.
The treatment begins with a consultation and scalp scan to assess concerns such as dryness, sensitivity, build-up and thinning. Therapists then prepare a herbal mask using Ayurvedic botanicals selected for the guest’s scalp and hair.
Ingredients may include bhringraj (false daisy), amla (Indian gooseberry), neem, hibiscus, reetha (soapberry) and shikakai, traditionally used in Indian haircare for their cleansing and conditioning properties.
A cleanse with pure spring water follows, alongside an Ayurvedic oil head massage using warm oil to ease tension. The ritual also incorporates a shoulder massage and concludes with home-care advice based on the initial assessment.
The consultation is what makes the treatment personal. Rather than following a fixed product selection, therapists adapt the herbal blend and treatment to the scalp’s condition, giving guests a closer understanding of their hair and scalp-care needs.
More ways to unwind
SHOSAN’s 90-minute signature treatments also extend to facial and body care.
The Signature Glow Facial (IDR1,500,000; $107) uses Éminence Organic Skincare products selected for each guest’s skin type. Facial care is accompanied by warm oils, a head massage and final hair wash, making it suited to skin feeling dry or looking tired after flights and time outdoors.
For a full-body treatment, the Signature Massage (IDR1,100,000; $78) combines Balinese and Ayurvedic-inspired techniques with warm oils. The session moves from the body to the scalp before finishing with a hair wash, providing a welcome break after active days around Bali.
Bring the ritual home
SHOSAN produces its own Ayurvedic-inspired haircare range, including shampoo, conditioner and a herbal scalp mask made with botanical ingredients. All three products are registered with Indonesia’s BPOM.
Regular visitors can also explore SHOSAN’s memberships, which pair repeat treatments with additional benefits. The Ritual membership includes full-size SHOSAN shampoo and hair oil for maintaining a scalp-care routine between appointments.
Gift cards and private hire of the spa are also available.
