While the name might be a bit of an exaggeration (there are only 110 islands in the archipelago), Jakarta’s Thousand Islands is a great option for visitors who want to get out of the city. If you prefer to stay dry, Pulau Onrust is home to a hidden Dutch fortress that’s been converted to a museum. Ferries depart from Ancol Marina in Jakarta and trips to the islands take anywhere between 30 minutes to three hours.
