With ample space, kids’ menus and cool play areas, these are the spots you need to go if you want to eat out with your kids

As all parents know, it can be hard to get your inquisitive child to sit still for an entire meal. With this in mind, we’ve rounded up some of the best places in Singapore to keep kiddos entertained while the grown-ups dine in peace. From treehouses and bouncy castles to swings and sandpits, these are some of the best child-friendly restaurants to take the family out for a stress-free, and fun, meal.

1. Take a break from the wild at Watami, Wildlife Mandai East

Recently opened, the new Dining Alley at Mandai East offers zoo-goers a wide range of food options from American-style pizza to Hunan favourites. If you’re out exploring the parks with children, Japanese family-style restaurant Watami is worth a visit.

Not only does it offer a wide variety of options to cater to every kind of eater, there is also a small, simple play area to keep the kids entertained while you wait for your food. Kids menu options include ramen and salmon and rice, while the larger menu is varied enough that everyone can find something to enjoy.

2. Indulge in American-inspired sweet treats at Coach Coffee Shop, WEAVE

After exploring Singapore’s new Oceanarium, head over to Sentosa’s new sustainable mall WEAVE and drop by the Coach Coffee Shop for a much-needed (and appreciated) sweet treat the kids are going to love. The café is the first of its kind for the luxury American brand and serves elevated American classics such as the wagyu beef hot dog and grilled cheese sandwich.

Don’t leave without treating the kids (and possibly yourself) to the signature iced chocolate that is a D-I-Y “project” served with two iced chocolate C’s, milk and chocolate syrup for you to mix to your own taste. Try the chilli crab soft serve, inspired by Singapore’s famed eponymous dish which tastes far better and more refreshing than it may sound.

3. Authentic Italian with a side of Siloso Beach-side chill at Trapizza

On a visit to Sentosa, don’t miss out on this gem of a restaurant, located on the quieter side of Siloso Beach. Trapizza features wood-fired pizza and delicious Italian cuisine with the kids meals served in cute, car-shaped plates that are sure to impress.

Bring a change of clothes as there is a small water play area next to the outdoor dining seats that is entertaining and refreshing after a day of play on the island.

4. Jump around in Café Melba’s bouncy castle at Goodman Arts Centre

Café Melba’s pioneer outlet at Goodman Arts Centre is still our café of choice for a casual and relaxed brunch with friends or family. With shady trees and a wide-open space at the outdoor patio, there’s a welcoming and homely vibe that’s a respite from the hectic city centre.

On weekends, the space turns into a vibrant spot with a bouncy castle and other activities to entertain energetic kids. If you’re there on a Monday, kids eat for free! Food here is mostly fusion fare, with influences from Melbourne and Asia. Standouts include the brioche French toast with homemade maple berry sauce and mozzarella stuffed potato rosti with poached eggs.

5. Enjoy the outdoors at Baker & Cook and Plank Pizza

Baker & Cook and Plank Pizza share a space under Core Collective Dempsey, a one-stop fitness and wellness space that’s situated at the quiet Loewen cluster. The outdoor area boasts a playground that has an adorable treehouse, a swing, slide, wooden boat and more. While not huge, there is plenty of space for roaming and it offers everything the little ones (and dogs!) need while you tuck into your meal.

You can order from both menus regardless of where you’re seated. Choose from a wide variety of mouthwatering baked goods, pizzas, breakfast items (we recommend the Peter Gordon’s Turkish Eggs) and sharing plates. Pair your food with cold pressed juices, smoothies, organic beverages like kombucha, and coffee and tea.

6. Enjoy French pastries at Tiong Bahru Bakery’s Fort Canning outpost

Located right beside Jubilee Park at Fort Canning Hill, this quiet outlet of Tiong Bahru Bakery (known as TBB Foothills) takes inspiration from the location’s history as the former River Valley Swimming Complex.

Step outside and enjoy the chain bakery’s selection of delicate French pastries and coffee in a unique garden setting overlooking the park and hillside area. There’s plenty of space for the kids to run around, climb the playground or burn some energy trudging up Fort Canning Hill itself.

7. Spend the day at Sentosa's Coastes beach club

With seats right at the beach and a spectacular waterfront view, do you really need any more convincing? Coastes is a laid-back joint where the little ones can indulge in some sand and water play while you enjoy the breeze and tuck into delicious beach bites like crispy beer-battered fish and chips and pulled pork tacos.

Tired from the day’s activities? Bask in the evening sun on one of its deck chairs as you cool down with a bevvy. There’s a diaper-changing station, high chairs and even a sandbox for smaller children (they even sell sand toys too).

8. Sample German and Swiss delicacies at Huber's Bistro

Designed to complement its two-storey butchery, the highlight of Huber’s Bistro is its large soft-fall playground that’s gated and shaded, so the kids can run wild safely. After they have exhausted themselves on the slides and climbing fixtures, retire to the bistro for a nourishing meal.

Meat dishes served here are as fresh as it can get – there are seven different sausage dishes as well as burgers (try the 21-day dry-aged beef burger), sandwiches and an absolutely scrumptious braised beef short rib. Wash them down with some refreshing German and Swiss beers. Don’t forget to stock up your pantry with some of its gourmet produce for a feast at home.

9. Enjoy delicious Aussie eats at Jimmy Monkey Café, PLQ Parkside

With a relaxing outdoor setting and a menu that features Australian favourites like cheesy vegemite toast soldiers, Jimmy Monkey Café is a tasty stop at PLQ Parkside thanks to the extensive outdoor playground just a few steps away. While parents enjoy an excellent cup of joe, kids can test their agility and climbing abilities safely in the Banyan-tree-inspired climbing nets and twisting tunnel slides.

When everyone has worked up an appetite, the little ones can tuck into a dedicated kids’ menu that features macaroni and cheese, French toast and pancakes.

10. Savour easy Swiss fare at The Marche

With three locations in Singapore’s busiest malls (VivoCity, Suntec City and 313@Somerset), The Marche is a great place to drop by to refuel before returning to sightseeing. Enjoy dishes cooked to your preferences at the different cooking stations ranging from favourites like the potato rösti to freshly cooked pasta and pizza. Naturally there are extensive dessert options and lots of fresh juices.

The kid’s meal set ensures your little ones get a main, a drink and a dessert which is sure to please even the pickiest eaters. Best yet, each location has its own little playground so that there’s a safe space for them to burn off energy while you continue to enjoy your meal.
