Baan Silapin

A canal tour reveals Bangkok’s fading waterways – and hidden gems like Baan Silapin

Bangkok may have lost its “Venice of the East” moniker when cars replaced rowboats, but life still thrives deep within its network of waterways. Take a canal tour to find a rapidly disappearing side of the city, and ask your longtail guide to take you to Baan Silapin, the Artist’s House.

The popularity of this 200-year-old wooden house and arts centre has reenergised the traditional community around it. Stick around until 2pm, when artists put on a Thai puppet show (every day except Wednesdays).
