From prata in Katong to sunset cycling at East Coast Park, two crew members from the airline’s new safety video reveal their favourite ways to spend a day in the Lion City

Singapore Airlines’ new safety video doubles as a love letter to Singapore – and now the crew featured in it are sharing their favourite ways to explore the city.

Filmed across some of the island’s most recognisable landscapes – from the soft sands of Sentosa to the misty greenery of the Cloud Forest at Gardens by the Bay – the video follows Leading Stewardess (LSS) Angeline Yap and Flight Steward (FS) Ahmad Zhafir Safrudin as they guide passengers through essential safety procedures.

“What I love about the video is how beautifully it captures not just our architecture and heritage, but also the vibrancy of individual neighbourhoods and the spirit of Singaporean life,” says Zhafir.

Angeline hopes it inspires travellers to look beyond the skyline. “I hope visitors will explore not just Singapore’s attractions, but also our culture and how it shapes our identity,” she says.

Here, the pair share how they would spend a perfect day in the Lion City.

Zhafir’s perfect day in Singapore

Morning. “I’d begin the day with a morning yoga class with friends in Katong, followed by a late breakfast of crispy prata (Indian flatbread) at a nearby hawker centre. Then it’s off for some window shopping around Joo Chiat – I also love admiring the charming Peranakan houses in the area.”

Afternoon.  “Sultan Mosque is especially beautiful at dusk when the sun sets over the golden dome. Also, be sure to explore the surrounding area’s great eateries and quaint shops.”

Evening. “In the evening, I’d head to East Coast Park, where I’d rent a bicycle and catch the sunset before enjoying a hearty local dinner of sambal (chilli paste) stingray, kangkung belacan (stir-fried water spinach with shrimp paste), satay and a large mug of sugarcane juice.”

Morning. “I’d start the morning with coffee and brunch at a café along Joo Chiat Road, before heading to the Tanjong Pagar area for an afternoon Pilates session. The Botanic Gardens, Singapore’s very own UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a beautiful space where you can enjoy a peaceful walk and learn about the important role the gardens have played in our history.”

Afternoon. “To truly experience daily life in our multicultural society, take a walk along Waterloo Street, where you’ll pass a Hindu temple, a mosque, a Buddhist temple and a Catholic church. What’s remarkable is not just their proximity, but also how they all manage to co-exist peacefully.”

Evening. “For dinner, I’d meet friends at a hawker centre in Simpang Bedok. If we’ve eaten a little too much and need to walk it off, one of my favourite spots is the Bay East Garden at Gardens by the Bay, where you’re rewarded with a panoramic view of Singapore’s buildings glowing against the night sky.”
