OH! Open House’s walking tours are one of the best ways to gain unique insight into a local neighbourhood’s past, present and future. While their guided tours don’t run on a regular schedule (visit their website for the latest news and dates), the 2024 edition gives visitors an opportunity to hear little-known histories about the historic Kampong Gelam enclave and see specially commissioned artworks inside local establishments.
The non-profit also runs a permanent self-guided audio tour called New World’s End. It takes participants down back alleys around Jalan Besar as they listen to a love story set in the 1960s. The best part? It ends at Exit Stage Left, a speakeasy that features a menu made exclusively with local spirits and ingredients, so that you can end your experience of the local with a taste of it, too.
