Built by European Mr William Ford, this 1783 gem has played host to leading actors, film makers, historians and authors over the decades. The eccentric Violet Smith inherited the hotel from her mother and managed it till her passing in 2014. She was known for her effervescent personality and fondness for the good things in life. Located in the heart of the city, once you are inside the hotel, you’re in a world away from the mayhem beyond its walls. Now part of the Elgin group of hotels, The Fairlawn underwent a much-needed makeover over two years before it reopened to give guests a better experience than ever before.
