Amid scores of islands, Cheung Chau is a popular option for a day trip. A mere 35-minute ferry ride from Central, the fishing community offers a much gentler pace to life with temples, homes and walks aplenty. Beaches get popular on weekends but are often deserted on weekdays, while local seafood spots offer excellent value. The island is also home to the famed annual Cheung Chau Bun Festival, which sees locals building towers out of bamboo and steamed buns.
