For its second Paris property, the Experimental Group brings its signature style to 50 rooms in the heart of the city

1. A quiet cocoon in a fast-paced neighbourhood

Amid the restaurants, theatres and bars lining the bustling Boulevard Poissonnière is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it alleyway leading to Hotel des Grands Boulevards. Here, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped away from the city and into a private residence, with the upper-floor rooms guaranteeing blissful quiet.

2. A fresh aesthetic

Award-winning designer Dorothée Meilichzon plays up the hotel’s 300-year past as a private mansion straddling bourgeois suburbia and bucolic countryside. In the guestrooms, this translates to a romantic pairing of canopy beds with terracotta headboards; sage-green voiles with rough-hewn wooden side tables and stools; and rounded mirrors that give even the smallest room ample depth.

3. French-Italian fare whipped up by a top chef

Beloved chef Giovanni Passerini has crafted a regularly rotating menu that marries fresh pasta with French dishes. The best part? You’ll get to dine under a glass roof that retracts in good weather to reveal a canopy of stars, if you’re lucky.

4. A rooftop terrace for drinks and downward dogs

The hotel may lack a gym and spa, but it makes good use of the assets it does have, like the top-floor terrace that plays host to yoga classes (private or group) when the weather allows. Come aperitif hour, bartenders from ground-floor bar the Shell head upstairs to shake up creative cocktails till nightfall.

5. A good night’s sleep, guaranteed

Flawless design isn’t enough for a quality stay – the bedding must match up too. The hotel more than lives up to the sleep test, with premium mattresses that are handmade in a small Brittany-based atelier and custom-designed satin linens.
