Sue Caporaso, passenger sales executive at Singapore Airlines’ Adelaide office offers her best tips and tricks for exploring the city

Albeit a small city in the land down under, Adelaide boasts a wide variety of activities from roof climbing to wine tasting

EAT

The Adelaide Central Market offers
a plethora of choices when it comes
to good eats – fresh market produce, foods from around the world and
bread that’s to die for! My favourite Italian restaurant is Farina 00 in the suburb of Goodwood. The chef, Lewis Marro (who, full disclosure, happens
to be my nephew), makes his own pasta from scratch daily. I recommend the porchetta dish that’s served with pork and fennel sausage, napoletana sauce and rocket. Singapore House in Frewville is also worth a visit for their steamed prawn and chive dumplings.

EXPLORE

I suggest doing a tour of the Adelaide Oval stadium – those who are brave enough can book a sunset roof climb, which yields amazing views. The Art Gallery of South Australia is also first class, and you can easily spend hours strolling through the various galleries. Once you’re done perusing the exhibits, walk over to the picturesque Adelaide Botanic Garden or take a tram to Glenelg Beach for a dip in the ocean. Wine aficionados can head further afield to the Barossa Valley or the McLaren Vale wine regions – almost every winery in South Australia offers free tastings!

STAY

I recommend Mayfair Hotel – located in the heritage-listed, beautifully renovated Colonial Mutual Life building – for its stellar location and comfortable beds; the Hilton hotel that’s right next door to the Central Market and Chinatown; and the InterContinental along the River Torrens.

SHOP

Rundle Mall is great for its variety and sheer range of shopping available. There are over 1,000 different retail outlets and services here, as well as a few buskers that are sure to keep you entertained. Another great place is JamFactory, where you can browse glass, ceramics, jewellery, textiles and furniture.

TIPS

Adelaideans are a very friendly bunch. Adelaide isn’t very big, so I suggest getting around on foot and using the tram if you need to (it’s free within city limits). Overall, it’s best to have a wander – you are sure to run into something that takes your breath away.
