Gardens by the Bay in Singapore is more than just a garden. It's an extraordinary fusion of art, science and nature

Produced by SilverKris for Gardens by the Bay

A visit to Singapore simply isn’t complete without a day at the iconic Gardens by the Bay, an awe-inspiring horticultural wonderland sprawled across 101 hectares along Marina Bay. Here, amid the bustling cityscape, you’ll discover a verdant oasis that celebrates the beauty of plants, showcases sustainable practices and captivates visitors of all ages.

Start your journey from Bay South Garden, the largest of the three gardens that make up Gardens by the Bay. Immerse yourself in a tapestry of colours as you wander through themed gardens that reflect diverse ecosystems from around the world. Heritage Gardens is a collection of four gardens that reflect the history and culture of Singapore’s main ethnic groups and colonial heritage while World of Plants features six gardens where visitors can learn about the collection of tropical plants and the ecosystems they support.

Nature and innovation at the Cooled Conservatories

Step into the Cooled Conservatories, two glass biomes that bring together gorgeous greenery and sustainable technologies. Cloud Forest mimics the cool-moist climate of the Tropical Montane regions, which sit 1,000m to 3,500m above sea level. When you first enter the Cloud Forest, you’ll be greeted by a 35m-high waterfall – one of the tallest indoor waterfalls in the world. At the highest point of the mountain, make your way through the Lost World, where you’ll find vegetation that thrives at around 2,000m above sea level.

From there, head over to Flower Dome, which replicates the cool-dry climate of the Mediterranean and semi-arid subtropical regions of the world. This is where you’ll discover plants from far-flung corners of the planet, including the western part of South Africa and the coastal high plains of South America. Be sure to snap pictures of the colourful blooms and rare plant species. Don’t miss the Flower Field, which hosts a regular rotation of themed exhibitions, such as Sakura and Tulips.

Fun for the family at the horticultural-themed gardens

As you delve deeper into Gardens by the Bay, you’ll encounter a plethora of horticultural-themed gardens that will expand your knowledge and make a nature enthusiast out of you. Explore the Sun Pavilion, where over a thousand desert plants like cacti and succulents thrive in arid conditions. Take a stroll along Kingfisher Lake, where water lilies and lotus flowers dance to the rhythm of nature before heading to the boardwalk around Dragonfly Lake.

Enchanted moments throughout the gardens

If you are looking for a quiet respite, wander through the secluded Serene Garden, inspired by the minimalist concept of Japanese zen gardens. But if you prefer an immersive multi-sensory experience, step into Floral Fantasy, a fantastical attraction that combines technology and artistry to create a feast for the senses. Within the 1,500m2 space, you’ll find four diverse landscapes, each boasting a different artistic concept. Look out for the Poison Dart Frog Vivarium, where you can marvel at the tiny but highly toxic frogs from Central and South America. Visitors travelling with young children will love the Flight of the Dragonfly, a 4D cinematic experience that takes you on a simulated journey of a dragonfly’s flight path through the Gardens.

The practical beauty of the Supertrees

Watch the Supertrees come to life twice every evening with specially choreographed music and synchronised lighting. Photo: Gardens by the Bay

When visiting Gardens by the Bay, a must-see attraction is the iconic Supertrees, 18 vertical gardens that tower above the landscape, creating a dramatic spectacle. These structures not only showcase a variety of bromeliads, ferns and tropical flowering climbers, 11 of them also serve a practical purpose by generating solar power and collecting rainwater. For a bird’s eye view of the Gardens, make your up to the OCBC Skyway, a 128m-long walkway linking two 42m-high Supertrees. And as the sun sets, prepare for a captivating spectacle as the Supertrees come to life in a dazzling display of lights and sound during the Garden Rhapsody show.

A journey like no other

From the awe-inspiring Supertrees to the lush wonders of the Cooled Conservatories and the horticultural-themed gardens, Gardens by the Bay promises an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages. Come, explore and be enchanted by Gardens by the Bay – where nature’s splendour and human ingenuity converge to create an oasis like no other in the world.
