The Siam is the most intriguing luxury hotel in Bangkok. The five-star riverside sanctuary has 39 suites and villas, each offering 80 to 160m2 of space. Creative director Krissada Sukosol Clapp, who moonlights as a rock star, has filled the property with quirky objets d’art: Han dynasty pottery, vintage posters, first-edition Beatles and Prince albums. Clapp has said the hotel is his way of expressing “Thainess”. True enough, The Siam is playful, original and evocative of early 20th-century Thailand.
