Founded in Bali in 1975, John Hardy works closely with local craftspeople across its workshop and boutique spaces, where jewellery pieces are designed, handcrafted and presented in settings shaped by nature and traditional Balinese techniques.
The experience
In Seminyak, the John Hardy Boutique & Gallery offers the most accessible introduction to the brand’s collections. Set within a two-storey space, the boutique presents its latest jewellery alongside a relaxed dining and bar concept, making it as much a lifestyle stop as a retail one.
Further inland near Ubud, the Kapal Bamboo Boutique & Artisan Workshop in Mambal offers a more immersive experience. Set within a sprawling, 100-acre compound surrounded by rice fields, the space functions as both workshop and boutique.
Visitors can observe parts of the jewellery-making process, explore archival pieces and browse collections crafted on-site by master artisans. Jewellery pieces span a wide range, with prices starting from USD350 (about S$450) and reaching up to USD75,000 (about S$96,600) for more exceptional creations.
Why visit
Both spaces are designed to reflect the process behind the jewellery itself. In Seminyak, this takes the form of a social, lifestyle-led setting where dining and shopping sit side by side. In Mambal, it becomes a more intimate encounter with the workshop and the artisans behind the work.
Together, they offer two ways of engaging with the same idea: jewellery as a continuation of Bali’s longstanding craft traditions rather than a departure from them.
