The bubble gum pink house on Radha Kanta Jew Street stayed dilapidated for many years until it was bought and converted into a delightful six-room boutique hotel. While many heritage buildings in the vicinity have been torn down or indiscriminately renovated, a family feud and neglect has worked in the bungalow’s favour as much of the original structure, dating back to 1926, has been left as is. Upcycled furniture, Bakelite switches, working typewriters and brass lotas (urns) filled with fragrant Indian tuberoses magically reimagine the home of a upper middle class Bengali family from the early 1900s. Free hour-long walks around the neighbourhood by guides are an added bonus.
