Another – albeit much more squat – riverside icon of the city is the Renaissance-era Schlossturm. This medieval tower is all that remains of a once-sprawling palace razed by fire in 1872. It now houses the Schifffahrt Museum (Maritime Museum), which showcases exhibits chronicling the history of travel and trade on the Rhine.
