Waldorf Astoria Shanghai Qiantan sits along the southern stretch of Shanghai’s riverfront, overlooking the Huangpu from the emerging Qiantan district. The brand’s second property in Shanghai makes it one of only a handful of cities worldwide to host two Waldorf Astoria hotels.
Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and Cheng Chung Design, the hotel reinterprets Shanghai’s Art Deco heritage through a contemporary lens. Sail-inspired details nod to its riverside setting, while reimagined peacock motifs reference the brand’s heritage. Elements of Chinese craftsmanship are woven throughout, creating a subtle dialogue between East and West.
The 204 rooms and suites start at a generous 52 square metres, with panoramic river views and spacious balconies; select rooms also feature outdoor Jacuzzis.
Elsewhere, a 25-metre heated pool, riverside jogging trails and sunrise yoga make the most of the waterfront setting. With Tank Shanghai and the West Bund Museum nearby, the hotel combines easy access to the city’s cultural attractions with a quieter side of Shanghai.
