At Secret Roof, an intimate terrace frames the historic shikumen rooftops of Zhang Yuan in the foreground, with Jing’an’s glittering skyline rising beyond. The view captures Shanghai’s contrasts particularly well, juxtaposing the stone-gate houses of the old city with its soaring glass towers.
Inside, the mood turns more theatrical. Deep reds, caramel oranges and dark golds fill the space beneath a domed ceiling, evoking the plush intimacy of a retro opera house.
Cocktails take their cues from the city, including the “Shanghai Flavor”, made with house-made coffee-lemon liqueur in a nod to Shanghai’s thriving café culture. On select evenings, DJs take over from 9pm to midnight, transforming the bar from a sunset perch into a livelier late-night spot.
