Yao Lu, one of the leading figures in China’s cocktail scene, follows the success of Union Trading Company – a six-time Asia’s 50 Best Bars entrant and former World’s 50 Best Bars honouree – with Alma Luna, meaning “Soul of the Moon”. Opened in August, the bar is designed for leisurely evenings over cocktails and shared plates.
The intimate 43-seat space combines emerald leather, warm wood and brass in a contemporary take on the warmth and romance of Havana. The cocktail programme draws on Cuban classics alongside original creations such as Luz de Luna and Flor de Noche, complemented by a menu of sharing plates.
Lu brings considerable pedigree to the project. In both 2021 and 2022, he was the only bartender from mainland China included in Drinks International’s “Bar World 100”, its annual list of influential figures in the global drinks industry.
