The world’s first koala sanctuary, Lone Pine is 12km from the city centre and easily reached with a bus ride or a leisurely river cruise. There are daily wildlife shows as well as opportunities to hand-feed kangaroos and colourful lorikeets. It’s also one of the few places in Australia where you can hold koalas – go ahead and take that selfie with the cuddly marsupial.
