Talad Noi gets all the love these days, but Khlong San, on the other side of the Chao Phraya, is coming into its own with a mix of old and new sites all within walking distance of one another

1. Rong Si

Rong Si at Lhong 1919 occupies a 19th-century warehouse along the waterfront called Wharf 41, which features a shaded patio and airy indoor dining rooms. Go for the delicious Thai seafood dishes, such as pad Thai with river prawns and steamed sea bass in soy sauce.

2. Kudi Jeen

Experience the Kudi Jeen area’s unique Eurasian heritage in structures like the Santa Cruz Church and Windsor House, a crumbling teakwood home on the river’s edge. Don’t leave without trying khanom farang kudi jeen – a Portuguese-inspired cake – at the traditional Thanusingha Bakery.

3. The Never Ending Summer

Located at The Jam Factory, this spot serves excellent Thai food and drinks in an industrial setting. If the design doesn’t hook you, the food definitely will. The menu features upscale home-style dishes such as grilled Kurobuta pork neck and red curry with duck. Either would pair well with a tamarind margarita.

4. Yuyuan Art & Antiques

Though named after Yuyuan Garden in Shanghai, this gallery’s beauty is less about landscaping and more about artful raw concrete. Stop by to see the latest exhibition, pick up antique Chinese furniture or purchase smaller goods – from paintings to ceramics.

5. Anyroom

This is the shop and showroom of one of Thailand’s leading furniture designers. You can browse home décor items, kitchenware, bath accessories, bags and more. It also hosts various monthly workshops, including ceramics-painting and terrarium-making lessons.

6. Amdaeng Riverside Hotel

Set in a renovated three-floor building with a title deed written over a century ago, this 10-room property is distinguished by its excellent river views and romantic rooftop dining spot. The exterior, as well as core architectural elements, are coated in eye-catching scarlet paint.
