Hong Kong means "fragrant harbour" in Cantonese

EAT

Be sure to book ahead at classic Northern Chinese restaurant Spring Deer, where I like to order their signature Peking duck. I also frequent Luk Yu Tea House, a pioneer dim sum spot that’s famed for the char siu bao (roasted pork bun). A true local favourite, Four Seasons Pot Rice promises a sizzling clay pot of steaming rice filled with cured pork sausages and salted fish. And for good food and great music, I recommend Ozone, Asia’s highest rooftop sky bar that’s located on the 118th floor of The Ritz-Carlton.

STAY

The Murray is one of the most luxurious hotels in Hong Kong – from here, it’s just a tram ride to the top of Victoria Peak. Staying at the 1881 Heritage will bring you back to the Victorian era through the site’s surrounding architecture and artefacts. I also recommend the Tai O Heritage Hotel. It has a refined colonial-style façade and chic interiors.

EXPLORE

Hong Kong has the world’s highest number of skyscrapers, so walk along the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade to snap panoramic shots or enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the harbour from the sky100 Observation Deck. Spend a day at Hong Kong Disneyland, home to thrilling rides and mesmerising parades. No trip is complete without viewing the bronze Big Buddha statue, accessible via the Ngong Ping 360 cable car.

SHOP

Head to PMQ, a complex filled with small shops and design studios. Also drop by K11 Art Mall, which has both a retail wing and an art museum under one roof. The Cat Street Antique Market along Upper Lascar Row is my personal shopping paradise for antique furniture, vintage statues and movie posters. West Kowloon Cultural District also organises local pop-up art festivals such as Freespace Happening, an outdoor event taking place on the second weekend of every month.

TIPS

Purchase a Sold Tourist Octopus card for HK$39 (S$6.80). This transit pass can be used across numerous public transport options. The tram service is also an alternate way to explore the city.
