From hand-crafted mozzarella, brie and gruyere, to delicious cheese spreads featuring local ingredients, the cheesemakers of Mumbai have started a quiet trend that is continues to grow in popularity. These three artisanal producers are a great place to start when it comes to sampling this new trend.
1. Eleftheria
Mausam Jotwani started cheesemaking as a hobby and, before she knew it, it turned into her profession. She now supplies European cheeses like mozzarella, fromage blanc and burrata to Mumbai’s restaurants and caterers.
2. The Spotted Cow Fromagerie
This spot specialises in French and Italian cheeses like brie and camembert, and recently launched a new range flavoured with herbs, spices and black Italian truffles.
3. Casa Del Cheese
Casa Del Cheese is known for its organic variants like gouda and Saint-Marcellin. You can also pick up a range of relishes in innovative flavours like apple-onion and beetroot-orange.
