Whether high up at a rooftop bar or caught up among the action on the roads, here’s where to go for some eye-catching photographs to make your followers instantly double tap

1. Chao Phraya River

Flowing through Bangkok and into the Gulf of Thailand, the river sees 50,000 people take the ferry across it each day. Despite the waters being murky, you’ll find kids splashing around in the shallow waters, where there’s also potentially a brilliant snapshot of the colourful houses on stilts.

2. MahaNakhon

The skyscraper in the central business district of Silom is the country’s tallest, so it’s worth capturing for a cool shot. At 77 storeys and 314m high, the building, which is also known as the Pixel Tower, has an interesting shape that makes it almost look as though it’s unfinished, or like there are a few “pixels” missing from the picture.

3. Baiyoke II Tower

This was Thailand’s tallest building for 19 years before MahaNakhon was built, and still offers cool views whether you’re inside overlooking the river or staring at it. At 85 storeys and 309m high, you’re sure to get shots that will make knees everywhere a little bit wobbly.

4. 342 Bar

For those who aren’t a fan of heights, 342 Bar is a good option to capture shots of the river and skyline at a lower level. The bar juts out so you feel like you’re floating on the river while enjoying a drink. Capture colourful sunsets here to increase your Instagram likes.

5. Khao San Road

The short street in the centre of the city has plenty of photo opportunities. Both locals and tourists throng this busy area where you’ll find some of the most popular bars and clubs around. Whether it’s a drink you’re after or a good deal on souvenirs, there’s plenty to see and snap here.

6. Wat Saket (Temple of the Golden Mount)

During the Loy Krathong festival in the month of November, the golden chedi (mount) of the temple is draped in a red cloth as worshippers climb 300 steps to reach the top, but the temple is still a great photo opportunity at any time of year.

7. Sky Bar

You might recognise this as the place from The Hangover Part II movie  – they even serve a Hangovertini. Located on the 64th floor of the State Tower, the second tallest building in Thailand, and inside the Lebua hotel, it’s no wonder it’s such a hotspot. It offers 360-degree views of the city and is known as one of the best rooftop bars in the world.

8. Sala Rattanakosin (Temple of Dawn)

Dine with a view of the Wat Arun temple by making a restaurant reservation at the Sala Rattanakosin resort, located on an island at the east side of the river. The Buddhist Temple of Dawn is one of 31,200 temples across the country and quite possibly one of the best to photograph.

9. Vertigo bar at Banyan Tree Bangkok

This restaurant isn’t just worth visiting for some great food – it boasts incredible views from up high above the city. The venue stretches far and wide and makes you feel as if you’re on top of the world, thanks to it being located on the 61st floor.

10. Chatuchak weekend market

Head here on the weekends to see the colourful stalls selling clothes, homeware, jewellery and more. But foodies will want to use it as an opportunity to take a snap of one of their delicious snacks which range from coconut ice cream to a pan of paella that’s big enough for your whole crew to share.
