A new burger joint has opened its doors in San Francisco – and it’s quite unlike any other. For starters, you won’t find anybody flipping patties or toasting buns at The Creator. Instead, orders are whipped up from start to finish using a massive robotic system.

The total length of the robot kitchen spans 4.2m. Features include three compressed-air tubes containing fresh brioche buns; glass silos filled with condiments ranging from chipotle sea salt to oyster aioli; a processor that grinds pasture-raised brisket and chuck steak; and a conveyor belt that assembles the magic.

The robot features 350 sensors, along with 50 actuators and 20 computers. Together they work to ensure that all the ingredients are precisely measured out.

Thanks to cost savings on labour and space, the price of each burger is kept low. At just US$6, it’s a little more expensive than McDonald’s or Burger King, but it’s far less than what you’d ordinarily pay for a restaurant-quality offering, which this definitely is.
