Co-working spaces are now offering much more than a desk and free coffee

Artistic Enclave

Stockholm

The city’s creative community has found a sanctuary in Alma, a new private members’ club housed in a former design college. Modelled to be a space for creativity, the interior is an art-filled homage to Scandinavian design; the Mid-Century Modern-inspired furniture, homemade ceramics and artful lighting were all created specifically for the space. Much of the décor is also available for purchase.

Female-Friendly

Los Angeles

The latest outpost of The Wing in West Hollywood channels the star-studded glamour of Southern California, with pastel-hued furnishings and a sunny roof terrace. The members-only club is the city’s only women-focused workspace; every aspect is designed to cater to women, from support groups for working mothers to a pump room equipped with a refrigerator to store breast milk.

Music Makers

London

Nightclub Ministry of Sound first rose to fame for its pioneering house music. Now, it’s opened The Ministry, a private members’ club and co-working space in a converted Victorian factory. Be inspired by bespoke psychoacoustics designed for productivity, a range of soundproof production suites, a private cinema, a 21m bar, fitness classes and a café.

Working Holiday

Bali

Envying the lush tropical grounds and laid-back island lifestyle on offer at Dojo Bali? You’re in luck: the co-working space has recently expanded to include co-living. This immersive approach includes a surprise welcome box and a surf session at the nearby beach, as well as a private room with maid service. A communal kitchen and a lounge stocked with board games encourages guests to socialise.

A Family Affair

Singapore

Frustrated by the difficulties of balancing their careers and their families, four working mothers came up with Trehaus, a co-working space for working parents, providing a crèche, a Silicon-Valley inspired preschool prioritising holistic education and designated child-free zones for meetings. A sandpit, glamping tents and a host of activities help keep the kids happy and occupied.
