A look back at Singapore's premier running event as the nation gears up for the race on 8 and 9 December, 2018
1. 1982
The inaugural Singapore Marathon is held as a “fun run”. Raymond Crabb from the UK and Hong Kong’s Winnie Ng win their divisions.
2. 1989
Ricky Khoo and Toh So Liang are the first Singaporeans to win titles, finishing first in the men’s and women’s categories.

3. 2002
Standard Chartered becomes the marathon’s title sponsor – a partnership it will commit to for 16 years and counting.
4. 2012
The event wins IAAF Gold Label status, which is held by other top races such as the Boston Marathon and the New York City Marathon.
5. 2018
This year’s race will feature improvements like a new bag deposit system, widened starting areas and more hydration zones.
