Here's where you can find stylish, occasionally irreverent, products created by the city’s top design talent

Trips to Hong Kong often include visits to high-end department stores, street markets and even outlet malls. In order to make sure you squeeze in time for some Made in Hong Kong products, we’ve put together a list of local boutiques. A confluence of cultural touchstones defines the Hong Kong look, and you can find stylish products created by the city’s top design talent at these local boutiques.

1. LAB Collector

In the heart of the teeming, neon-lit neighbourhood of Tsim Sha Tsui lies this oasis of calm, offering eco-minded accessories, gifts and homewares by independent local brands and artists. Many of the pieces here are handmade, and all are selected by the two Leung brothers (Ambrose and Boniface), who opened the space in 2010 as a rebuke against faceless consumerism. Give your wardrobe a LAB Collector twist with utilitarian wallets by SUU Design Works and paper tote bags by Kiruna – both from Japan – or uplift your living space with Nepalese rope incense and scented soy wax candles by Hong Kong-based Rosen Bridge.

2. Kapok

Launched in 2006, Kapok has five stores in the SAR, each with a different focus and product selection. Visit the flagship St Francis Yard location in Wan Chai for a forward-thinking edit of menswear, womenswear and accessories from up-and-coming global brands such as Bruta and Common Projects, alongside local cult favourites such as Future Classics.

3. The LAB at The Mills

A former textile factory in Tsuen Wan has been converted into The Mills, one of Hong Kong’s most exciting new creative hubs. Head to The LAB at The Mills for a tasteful selection of sustainable, socially responsible products – from fashion accessories to homewares, handmade soap, tea and wooden children’s toys. It’s a great place to discover Asian design talent.

4. G.O.D.

If you’re searching for irreverent Hong Kong style with an injection of nostalgia and a load of swagger, G.O.D. (Goods of Desire) is the name you need to know. This eclectic store, with outposts across the city, offers everything from coasters and magnets to kitchenware and clothing emblazoned with vintage neon signs, old-school post boxes or wry Chinese phrases.

5. LALA CURIO

This vibrant Wan Chai emporium is a treasure trove for fans of traditional craftsmanship. Its selection of statement furniture, luxuriously textured wallpaper and intricately decorated cloisonné tiles and jewellery is elegant and highly distinctive. Curation is executed with an expert eye, with products sourced from artisans across the region.
