1. Prism
This modern boutique carefully selects inventory from a diverse group of local artists. Wares span a range of prices and styles; find geometric jewellery, rare fragrances, hip silkscreen T-shirts, trendy jumpsuits, vintage- influenced watches and handmade kids’ toys, puzzles and art projects.
2. REI
Locally founded REI (Recreational Equipment Inc) attracts hordes of hiking boot-clad patrons to its sprawling flagship store. Enter past a waterfall and peruse the latest climbing kits, backpacks and technical clothing. There’s also a 20m climbing wall, in case you need a break from shopping.
3. Gold Dogs
Americana-themed Gold Dogs sells new and vintage fashion. Come for trucker hats, rock band T-shirts and Western-style belt buckles. The store even dedicates an entire wall to cowboy boots in an array of styles.

5. Fremont Vintage Mall
From ’70s lamps to retro wall hangings and apparel, Fremont Vintage Mall is packed with treasures from bygone eras. Spread over two levels, the store has a little bit of everything.Though well-organised, it can cause sensory overload for the unprepared shopper, but it rewards those who enjoy digging for one-of-a-kind finds.
6. Ballard Sunday Farmers Market
Held every Sunday, this market in the Ballard historic district features 100 vendors, including farmers, prepared food purveyors and artisans selling everything from fresh flowers to photography prints and handmade soaps.

Why Seattle?
It’s one of the best cities for outdoor enthusiasts due to its geographic position between the Olympic and Cascade Mountains, providing people endless opportunities for hiking, camping, skiing and snow-shoeing. The city is also on Puget Sound, which is one of the deepest coastal waterways and filled with marine wildlife.
Any tips for buying locally made gear?
A lot of premium outdoor gear is made in this region. Brands I recommend include Outdoor Emporium, Emerald Water Anglers and REI, as well as Filson.
What are your favourite local attractions?
I love the historic building of Captain Whidbey Inn at Coupeville. You can book a room in The Filson cabin there. I also love visiting the Ballard Locks to see the salmon swim up the fish ladder.
