Ranging from beginner to expert levels, these are the best spots for catching waves in Sri Lanka
1. Arugam Bay
Arguably the best wave in Sri Lanka, it breaks over a rocky bottom at Main Point, which is excellent for intermediate and expert surfers. The sandy bottom at Baby Point attracts beginners with its leisurely, long waves.
2. Weligama
Weligama is a 2km-long stretch on the South Coast. In Sinhalese, it means “Sandy Village”. It’s beginner-friendly, can be surfed throughout the year and on a good day, offers excellent long rides of up to 400m.
3. Midigama
Lazy Left and Lazy Right sit opposite each other in Midigama Bay and cater to all levels. At low tide, Lazy Left is longboarder-friendly with waves up to 500m. Rams is a right-hand break and welcomes advanced surfers with a fast take-off.
