Newtown is Sydney’s alternative stronghold, and its characters are as colourful as the Art Deco roofs that line its main thoroughfares of King Street and Enmore Road. At street level, you’ll find an array of eclectic shops, from some of the city’s best purveyors of vintage (including Cream on King and Three 5 Nine King, a Red Cross store) to cool, contemporary outfitters like the Standard Store and Nique. There are also great bookshops and all manner of bars, cafés and restaurants.
