Green spaces
Sudpark (above) on Werstener Strasse is an excellent place for families with children. I like the ponds and water features, and the Botanical Garden is nearby. I also like Lantz’scher Park, on Lohauser Dorfstrasse, which has objects of modern art and trees that predate the garden itself.

Harbourside
For unobscured views of the city and its modern architecture, I like Medienhafen (above), which is near the Rheinturm. The harbour is a beautiful area to enjoy the final hours of a summer day. There are often events held there, along with street performers, musicians and choirs, but the pace is gentle.
Follow the Heerdt
In the Heerdt district, spaces are more open. Many people go there to practise sports during the weekend, but I suggest visiting Schloss Eller. Aside from gardens, the palace contains a farm, where you’ll find rabbits, guinea pigs and geese.
