What is your favourite thing about visiting Makassar?
Makassar is still quite under the radar, so when you explore the city, it almost feels like you’re having your own private holiday with hardly any other tourists around.
What is a must-see landmark in the city?
Be sure to check out the historic Fort Rotterdam, which was the bastion of Dutch colonial power in the 17th century. It stands majestically on the coast, and is probably one of Makassar’s most iconic landmarks.
What about the city’s most underrated attraction?
I’d highly recommend Malino Tea Plantation, which is so obscure that it doesn’t even figure on Google Maps! It’s located approximately 20 minutes by car from the town of Malino. Here, you can enjoy the cool air and breathtaking views of endless tea fields.
